30 July, 2021 — The national accountancy body, the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA), will appoint Ms Fann Kor, ISCA’s Director (Member Support & Services), as its CEO-Designate with effect from 1 August, 2021. She will take over the helm from Mr Lee Fook Chiew as Chief Executive Officer when he retires from his role from 1 January 2022.
Ms Kor is a Chartered Accountant of Singapore. During her five years as a member of the ISCA senior management team, Ms Kor helmed various key portfolios, including industry support, quality assurance, member engagement, standards setting, and continuing professional development. As ISCA’s Director (Member Support & Services), Ms Kor champions initiatives aimed at driving innovation, quality and growth for the accountancy sector. She also works closely with ISCA’s stakeholders to drive the transformation of the sector via industry initiatives, such as those supported by LEAD funding schemes to help accounting entities through the various offerings from the SMP Centre. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, she was instrumental in the development of several initiatives to support the accountancy profession. These included the ISCA Support Fund, the COVID-19 Virtual Resource Centre, the COVID-19 Navigator and the Career Support Centre to help the accountancy profession build resilience and emerge stronger from the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to joining ISCA, Ms Kor was in audit practice with Ernst & Young.
ISCA President Mr Kon Yin Tong said: “Fann has the passion and a deep understanding of ISCA’s operations, the profession, and the environment in which we operate. I am confident she can take ISCA to its next level of growth, as the Institute continues to make strides towards its vision of being a world-class accountancy body of trusted professionals, contributing towards an innovative and sustainable economy. The Council warmly welcomes Fann to the role and wishes her every success.”
Ms Kor said: “I am grateful for the strong foundation built by my predecessors, and I am honoured by the trust placed in me to lead the Institute forward. As the profession navigates the ever-changing business landscape to seize new opportunities, I look forward to working with the Council and the team at ISCA to bring the Institute to greater heights.”
Mr Kon said, “Fook Chiew has been instrumental to ISCA’s continued success since helming the Institute as CEO in 2012. Under his leadership, several initiatives were developed to support the development of the accountancy profession. These included ISCA’s charity arm ISCA Cares, the Singapore Accountancy Awards, the ISCA Run and the Singapore Accountancy & Audit Convention series. During his tenure, ISCA became a member of the global Chartered Accountants Worldwide. Under Fook Chiew’s leadership, the Institute also developed specialisation pathways and programmes, such as the ISCA Financial Forensic Accounting Qualification, the ISCA Infrastructure and Project Finance Qualification, the Audit Committee Programme and Professional Risk Management Programme. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, he led the Institute through the challenges and uncertainties, putting the Institute on a steady footing operationally and financially.”
“Fook Chiew’s vision and drive, combined with his commitment to serving members and the profession, have strengthened ISCA. On behalf of the Council, I thank him for his contribution to ISCA and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.” added Mr Kon.
Mr Lee, who will step down as ISCA CEO on 31 December 2021, said: “It has been an honour and privilege to lead ISCA over the last nine years. I am grateful to the team at ISCA for their hard work, and I am proud of what we as an Institute have accomplished together. I also thank ISCA’s many other stakeholders for working with us in developing the accountancy profession.”
