ISCA Signs Reciprocal Agreement with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ)

7 May, 2021 – The Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA) has signed a Reciprocal Agreement with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) today.

The reciprocal agreement will enhance the global portability and international stature of the Chartered Accountant of Singapore – CA (Singapore) – designation, a professional designation conferred upon the completion of the Singapore Chartered Accountant (CA) Qualification. The Singapore CA Qualification is a professional accountancy qualification. The successful completion of the Singapore CA Qualification will lead to the conferment of the CA (Singapore) designation by ISCA.

The reciprocal agreement was signed by Mr Lee Fook Chiew, Chief Executive Officer of ISCA and Ms Ainslie van Onselen, Chief Executive Officer of CA ANZ, today. Mr Kon Yin Tong, President of ISCA and Dr Nives Botica-Redmayne, President of CA ANZ, witnessed the signing.

Under the agreement, eligible ISCA members can attain CA ANZ’s Chartered Accountant (CA) designation without having to fulfil additional professional or educational requirements. To be eligible, the ISCA member must have attained the CA (Singapore) designation and completed the Singapore CA Qualification programme. 

Similarly, Chartered Accountants from CA ANZ can apply for membership with ISCA, and attain the CA (Singapore) designation, a recognised mark of professional excellence for accountancy professionals and a pre-requisite for being a public accountant in Singapore.

To reach the reciprocity agreement, CA ANZ, ISCA and the Singapore Accountancy Commission (SAC) undertook a stringent assessment process in reviewing the qualifying requirements in education, examination, practical experience, professional standards and regulations of both institutions. SAC is a government statutory body spearheading the development of the accountancy sector in Singapore.

This is the fourth reciprocal agreement ISCA has signed with another professional accountancy body. ISCA had previously signed reciprocal agreements with Chartered Accountants Ireland, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), and the Institute of Chartered Accountants Scotland (ICAS).

These reciprocal agreements with globally recognised professional accountancy bodies elevate the professional recognition and international standing of Chartered Accountants of Singapore. This will enhance our members’ career mobility in an increasingly globalised business landscape.”

Mr Chaly Mah, Chairman, SAC, said, “The Singapore Accountancy Commission congratulates ISCA and CA ANZ on the signing of the Reciprocal Recognition Agreement between the two organisations. The mutual recognition of the two chartered accountancy qualifications will increase the flow of chartered accountants between our countries, giving them opportunities to widen their experience and deepen their skills. This mutually beneficial collaboration will contribute towards a closer economic cooperation between the two countries and will enhance Singapore’s position as a global accountancy hub.”
